Title: Biometrics and Biomedical Engineering: where is the border?
Abstract: Generally speaking, biometrics consists in extracting physical or behavioural characteristics from human body. Even if this classical definition is commonly employed in security applications, it is important to point out that biometrics can be connected to biomedical engineering applications through numerous examples. After a general introduction, some challenging approaches, mainly imported from the biomedical field, are highlighted within biometric applications (e.g. hidden biometrics). On the other hand, it will be shown how biometrics can be useful to deal with some specific healthcare issues. In particular, some modelling approaches related to face ageing and age estimation are considered.
Biography:Professor Amine NAIT-ALI was born in 1972. He received in 1994 the M.Sc degree in Electrical Engineering (Ingénieur d’état en électronique), at the university USTO (Oran), then the DEA degree (Diplôme des Etudes Approfondies) in Signal Processing and Control from the University Paris XI (1995), France. In 1998, he received the Ph.D. degree in Biosignal processing and the (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) (HDR degree) from the University Paris XII, in 2007. Until 2009, he has been an Associate Professor, and since, he is a full Professor at the University of Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC), (Prev. Paris XII). His research interests are focused on biosignal processing, biometrics, modelling, perception and smart systems. He is a member of the research laboratory (Image and Signal Processing and Intelligent Systems) and the head the Biometric Group. He has co-authored more than one hundred international peer-reviewed papers and edited and co-edited five books in the field of biometrics/biomedical (Springer, ISTE-Wiley and Hermes). He has organized and/or run several national, European and International workshops and Summer Schools and served also as a reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, IEEE Transactions Instrumentation and Measurement, IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, EURASIP journal on advances in Signal Processing, Biomedical Signal Processing and Control and Digital Signal Processing. Professor Amine NAIT-ALI is a member of: IEEE EMBS, IEEE Biometric Council, IEEE Computer science, SFGBM, GDR ISIS and STIC-Santé. He serves as the representative of IEEE EMBS in IEEE Biometric Council. He is also the head of the first International Master program of Biometrics. Professor Amine NAIT-ALI holds the Award of Excellence in Science.
